Evolve Cellars

Phone: (236) 422-2556
Email: info@timewines.ca
Address: 361 Martin Street Penticton, BC

About the winery

To 'evolve' means to change or develop slowly, step by step, one day at a time, ideally into a better, more complex, more advanced, and more progressive state of being. This is the core value and inspiration for the Evolve Cellars brand.

Evolve Cellars' new home will be at 361 Martin St., in downtown Penticton BC, sharing a roof with sibling TIME Winery. Evolve Cellars was established in 2015 by the McWatters family as a label created by their company, ENCORE Vineyards, to offer fresh, fruit-forward, crisp, approachable, well-balanced and affordable wines that can be enjoyed by anyone, and at every occasion. This, the winery team believes, is the natural essence of Okanagan wine today.

With 50 vintages of experience in the South Okanagan, the team knows that their unique terroir can offer the right wine to celebrate any occasion. They are committed to creating wines that express the unique flavours of Okanagan wine country.

They craft their wines using grapes grown in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia. Nature guides their decisions on which grape varieties are best suited to which site. For them, making wine is about time and place. It’s investing their time: documenting and studying each vintage, paying attention to the vines, and noting that which is discernible only when we take a moment to pause. It also means respecting the land: using mindful farming practices, employing new technologies to reduce their environmental footprint, and listening for the unique qualities of the region’s terroir.

Where every bottle tells a story of transformation – wines crafted to inspire, evolve, and elevate every moment.

Join us in celebrating life’s most exquisite moments, one glass at a time.

A NEW BOUTIQUE WINERY

Fox & Archer Winery is located on the beautiful Naramata Bench of Penticton British Columbia. All our fruit is grown and produced on the Naramata Bench at our property and sourced from the Fox family vineyard. We focus on producing cool climate style wines, with a strong emphasis on small batch winemaking.

WE PRODUCE HANDCRAFTED WINES

We started this journey 5 years ago when we bought a beautiful 5 Acre property on Naramata Road, which we planted in Merlot that’s currently coming into its 5th leaf. We mostly produce Pinot Noir, Malbec and semillon all coming from our Fox family vineyard just down the road from us.

At over 550 metres above sea level,

our Fox family vineyard is one of the highest vineyards on the Naramata Bench. We believe that due to this elevation, wide open and rocky south facing slope, we can grow some beautiful fruit. We have optimal sun and wind movement, and the slight temperature variance from the higher elevation helps keep the acid balanced on the warm days during the ripening season.

A HUSBAND AND WIFE TEAM

Fox and Archer Winery is run by husband & wife team, Diane Fox and Tyson Archer. Our focus is to make quality wines with a nod to an organic and natural wine making approach. Our goal is to make balanced terroir driven wines for everyone to enjoy.

Four Shadows Vineyard & Winery

Phone: (250) 493-3625
Email: info@fourshadowsvineyard.com
Address: 250 Upper Bench Road South, Penticton

About the winery

Four Shadows is family owned and operated, making wines from 100% estate grown grapes. During your visit, you’re welcomed like family into the comfortable tasting room at the foot of their vineyard. Taste their expertly crafted wines while taking in the view of the vineyards where they were produced and enjoying the story of how the winery came to be.

Four Shadows Winery, named after the four sons of owners Joka & Wilbert Borren, is founded on family. After farming together for nearly two decades in Alberta, the Borren family purchased their 17 acre vineyard property in 2011 and began reviving the neglected vines. After years of selling their grapes to other wineries, in 2017 they began crafting their own wines with the guidance of mentors from within the industry. Four Shadows Winery opened the doors of their tasting room in 2019 and have been sharing their story and wines with visitors ever since. As small producers who are slowly and thoughtfully expanding their portfolio, the Borrens will continue to be involved in every step of the winemaking process, from the vineyard to the cellar to the tasting room. While most of their sons have moved on to pursue their own dreams in trades and business, they have left their mark on the winery and still can be found helping from time to time.

Our Approach

The Borrens come from agricultural backgrounds; they love being outside, working the land and caring for their vines. They firmly believe wine is made in the vineyard and demonstrate this with their hands-on approach to viticulture. Maintaining that each vine has its own character and requires unique attention, they’ve developed an intimate knowledge and understanding of their vineyard over the ten-plus years it has been in the family. Working in conjunction with each season’s specific growing conditions, the Borrens’ vineyard practices produce the best fruit possible year after year. With the guidance of a consultant, wines are carefully crafted in the cellar, with little manipulation or intervention, allowing each vintage of wine to uniquely tell its story.

Ruby Blues Winery

Phone: (250) 276-5311
Email: rubyblueswinery@shaw.ca
Address: 917 Naramata Road, Naramata

We are the funkiest boutique winery on the stunningly beautiful Naramata bench in the South Okanagan. All our wines are produced from Okanagan-grown grapes, predominately from vineyards on the Naramata bench, where the terroir imparts that unique quality specific to our region.

In 2008 the winery opened after our owners, Prudence and Beat, sold Red Rooster Winery. Red Rooster had become a big winery. They wanted to get away from all the paperwork and get back in touch with the vines, wines, and guests.

Ruby Blues quickly became popular with visitors to the Naramata Bench. Our vibe as a fun winery with fine wine, great rock and roll music in the vineyard, and a selection of local artisan products was a hit from day one.

We work hard to stay small.

About the Vineyards

All of our wines are produced predominately from vineyards on the Naramata Bench where the terroir imparts that unique quality specific to our region. Everyone who works with the grapes at Ruby Blues is guided to speak to the vines with love and to ensure that music is played in the vineyard. We believe all living things deserve to be treated with love, including our vines.

Our Commune Series of wines are made from grapes that we source from our own vineyards and from vineyards of friends and neighbours along the Naramata Bench. The grapes from these different origins are now brought together as wine in the bottle. They all live in peace and harmony, just like the communes of the sixties. As we like to say, make wine, not war!

Chain Reaction Winery

Address: 375 Upper Bench Road North, Penticton

β€œYou start with the life you think you want, but if you’re really fortunate, end up with the life you were meant to have through a chain reaction of events”

Our VINEYARD

Our estate vineyard is situated on the eastern side of Naramata Road, at the southern end of the Naramata Bench Sub-GI.  With its largely western sloping aspect, this location captures the afternoon summer sun which helps to ensure optimal grape ripeness.  With approximately 1,400 growing degree days, this vineyard enjoys a similar climate to Burgundy, France which produces some of the finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines.

Get to Know Us

We are a small family run operation and are involved in every aspect of this operation from managing the vineyards, making wine, working in the tasting room, marketing and label design.  Our production will always be small because we want to continue this hands-on approach.  We like to think that our passion for wine, cycling and this amazing lifestyle will shine through in each bottle of wine.

We chose the name Chain Reaction for 3 reasons:

  • The chain references our love of cycling and triathlon

  • A chain reaction of events brought us to where we are now

  • A chain reaction occurs while transforming grapes into great wine!

We hope you will come visit us, hear more of our stories and taste our amazing wines!

Westbert Winery

Phone: (778) 738-1113
Email: info@wesbertwinery.com
Address: 1465 Naramata Road, Naramata

The Joubert family, originally from South Africa, founded Wesbert Winery in 2019 and garnered an instant reputation for the warm hospitality South Africans are known for. Wesbert Winery acquired a second vineyard on the Naramata Bench in 2020 to make better wines and diversify our existing portfolio.

Our Approach

In producing wines, we do a minimal intervention and let the fruit speak for itself in the expressions and flavours that the fruit was able to give us in the last growing year and let the terroir of the Naramata come out in everything that we do. Wesbert Winery aims to provide well balanced, full-flavoured wines that will be great for all occasions.

We began to diversify our wine portfolio in 2020 by adding Malbec, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillion to our Gamay, Merlot, Viognier, and GewΓΌrztraminer.

Get to Know Us

Situated on the famous Naramata Road outside Penticton, British Columbia, Wesbert Winery is home to a working vineyard cultivating five varietals of grapes to produce its wines. Surrounded by a picturesque setting of hills, valleys, the Okanagan Lake and within walking distance of Three Mile Bench, Wesbert is just as popular amongst cyclers and hikers. It is also close to the road-crossing of the Kettle Valley Rail (KVR) Trail.

Wesbert Winery offers a wine shop, tasting room and terrace for visitors.

Terravista Vineyards

Phone: (778) 476-6011
Email: info@terravistavineyards.com
Address: 1853 Sutherland Road, Naramata

In Spring 2019, Terravista Vineyards was handed over to locals, Eric and Dallas Thor. Bob and Senka had been easing into retirement, consulting for the Thors and advising and mentoring newly appointed Wine Maker, Nadine Allander, formerly of Time/Evolve and Poplar Grove Wineries.

Together our new team produced our first award winning vintage in Spring 2020 and our third vintage is being released May 2022.

Our Approach

Our home vineyards are in the Sub GI Area known as the Naramata Bench with over 50 wineries in the area as our neighbours.

Our Estate Vineyard, Lone Hand Ranch, is the home to the wine we call β€œFANDANGO”. Spanish varietals, AlbariΓ±o and Verdejo, typically grown in northwestern Spain and Portugal, were planted here in 2008. The southwestern slope of till sediments and stony soils of this vineyard above Naramata Road are optimal conditions for these aromatic whites with crisp acidity.

Get to Know Us

At the heart of Terravista Vineyards is the desire to be outside, make and share great wine with friends and have fun! We are interested in simplifying viticulture practices and reducing our footprint. One might call it sustainable practices, but we are learning from our vineyards and our land about what stewardship and sustainability means. We are adding alternative energy sources to our homes, reducing consumption and reducing interventions in the vineyards as much as possible. What does this translate into: 4 Solar Arrays installed at En Terre Vineyards, Electric utility vehicles when possible, manual canopy management, manual hedging and weeding, livestock integration, reducing pesticides and herbicides.

Moraine Estate Winery

Phone: (236) 422-3534
Email: info@morainewinery.com
Address: 1865 Naramata Road, Naramata

The name, Moraine, is derived from the geological term for the glaciated white clay buffs that comprise the breathtaking Naramata Bench. Also known as β€œboulder clayβ€œ, Moraine is a deposit of clay which is formed beneath glaciers and ice-sheets during the Glacial Period in North America, specifically, in the Okanagan Valley as we know it today. In result, these glaciated white clay cliffs comprise the wondrous Naramata Bench and inspire the winery’s land-formed name.

Our Approach

Moraine’s vineyards are named after their two daughters, Sophia and Anastasia. A third vineyard is named after their grand-daughter Lily. The Sophia Vineyard is the smaller and younger of the two being 5 acres and planted by Svetlana and Oleg upon their arrival to Penticton. It is located closer to Penticton and is planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The Anastasia Vineyard is the bigger and older of the two, composed of 10 acres and planted before the arrival of the couple. It is planted with Merlot, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz and Riesling. Moraine Winery looks out to the lake over the Anastasia Vineyard. The recent addition to Moraine is the Lily vineyard. Lily vineyard is located on the Upper Bench and is home to an assortment of grape varietals including Merlot and Gamay.

The signature bench lands of Naramata expose a face of the clay that can be seen below Moraine’s vineyard, and this exceptional landscape contributes to the creation of fresh, elegant, fruit-driven wines of distinction. With a goal of using only fruit grown on Naramata Bench, Moraine’s inaugural vintage wines offer a unique, desirable flavour profile. The western exposure of the vineyards permits the vines to capture every ray of sunlight from mid-morning to nightfall, and this, combined with a cooling breeze, delivers beautifully ripe and flavourful grapes.

Get to Know Us

Moraine Winery is a family-owned winery and vineyard overlooking Okanagan lake minutes away from the city of Penticton. From its shelf-like location above striking clay bluffs, Moraine peers over the landscape and water. These glaciated white clay cliffs comprise the breathtaking Naramata Bench and inspire the winery’s land-formed name.

The winery owners are the husband-wife team of Oleg & Svetlana. In 1995, the couple moved to Canada from Europe to give their family a better quality of life. They first moved to the city of Edmonton where they lived for 15 years. They were charmed by the beauty of the Okanagan and vineyards which made them relocate from Alberta in 2009. The couple believes that wine offers one of life’s most simple, enjoyable, and accessible pleasures; and this philosophy spurred their leap into the wine industry.

Laughing Stock Vineyards

Phone: (250) 493-8466
Email: Info@laughingstock.ca
Address: 1548 Naramata Road, Naramata

Laughing Stock Vineyards holds a coveted and respected portfolio of exemplary wines.

Highly acclaimed wines that have been twice awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in B.C. Wine, the 2011 Syrah was named the Best Red Wine in Canada by Decanter World Wine Awards, and in October 2018, Laughing Stock Vineyards took home the top trophy for Syrah in the Six Nation Wine Challenge that awards only the top wines of the New World nations.

Our Approach

As a team, we continuously be to explore and create the best wines that showcase the Okanagan Valley. Laughing Stock Vineyards is a team driven and hands-on operation – we take pride in diligently tending to every stage of the winegrowing and winemaking processes.

We are fortunate to work with top-of-the-line winery equipment like double sorting tables to ensure that only the best fruit clusters are used. We can also regulate how much whole berry fruit goes into the fermenters. We aim to always improve the wines year to year and as such we have been exploring a variety of fermentation vehicles over the past few years including temperature regulated stainless tanks, and the addition of eight concrete eggs with nicknames such as β€œFree Range,” β€œScrambled”, β€œFabergé” & β€œBenedict”. We have also acquired six clay Amphorae from Italy, in which we make a variety of limited production wines. Complexity is added to the red wines through an extended barrel-aging program using 100% French oak in both standard barrels sizes and 500 liter puncheons.

Get to Know Us

The Laughing Stock Vineyard Founders Cynthia and David Enns led conservative, methodical, and calculated lives in the Financial Industry. In 2003, they followed their hearts, and bullishly invested everything into the wine industry. An emotional decision that their pinstriped peers thought was … fiscally foolish, and financially unwise.

Today, while Cynthia and David are no longer involved in winery operations, they have left a formidable legacy, and commitment to excellence and passion for wine that continues to drive Laughing Stock Vineyards forward.  It is our goal to carry on their vision to continuously explore and create the best wines that showcase our beautiful region.

Foxtrot Vineyards

Phone: (250) 496-5082
Email: info@foxtrotwine.com
Address: 1201 Gawne Road, Naramata

We believe that a wine should be an expression of its place, of the particular soils and microclimate from which it comes, the vines and grapes that give it life, and the weather conditions that shape it, all animated by the sensibility of the individuals who make it. Great wine is not replicable from place to place nor the same from year to year. Foxtrot is fortunate to make its home on the Naramata Bench, whose unique terroir we seek to express in complex, elegant, and age-worthy Pinot Noirs.

Get to Know Us

While the roots of Foxtrot’s vineyards go back to 1993, it was the Allander family who decided, in 2004, to make their own wine from the property, which they named Foxtrot, and to build a winery there. Together, the family created superlative pinot noirs and chardonnays for over a decade. At the end of July 2018, an investor group led by Doug Barzelay and Nathan Todd purchased Foxtrot.

Black Widow Winery

Phone: (250) 276-5396
Email: info@blackwidowwinery.com
Address: 1630 Naramata Road, Naramata

We purchased our 7 acre Naramata Bench vineyard in 2000 and got to work right away planting more vines. Our wines are crafted exclusively from grapes grown on the Naramata Bench, and are predominantly single vineyard pressings.

Our Approach

Assisted by our 3 children, other family members, and friends, development of the property and business is an on-going project. We have a low intervention philosophy in wine making that focuses on the strength of the grapes that we use.

Get to Know Us

In 2006, we built Black Widow Winery and released our first single vineyard wines. Today our production averages 2,800 cases per year. The winery is built into a steep hillside, with 5 levels in total. This allows us to often use gravity for gentle movement of wine during production.
