Address: 1865 Naramata Road, Naramata
The name, Moraine, is derived from the geological term for the glaciated white clay buffs that comprise the breathtaking Naramata Bench. Also known as “boulder clay“, Moraine is a deposit of clay which is formed beneath glaciers and ice-sheets during the Glacial Period in North America, specifically, in the Okanagan Valley as we know it today. In result, these glaciated white clay cliffs comprise the wondrous Naramata Bench and inspire the winery’s land-formed name.
Our Approach
Moraine’s vineyards are named after their two daughters, Sophia and Anastasia. A third vineyard is named after their grand-daughter Lily. The Sophia Vineyard is the smaller and younger of the two being 5 acres and planted by Svetlana and Oleg upon their arrival to Penticton. It is located closer to Penticton and is planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The Anastasia Vineyard is the bigger and older of the two, composed of 10 acres and planted before the arrival of the couple. It is planted with Merlot, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz and Riesling. Moraine Winery looks out to the lake over the Anastasia Vineyard. The recent addition to Moraine is the Lily vineyard. Lily vineyard is located on the Upper Bench and is home to an assortment of grape varietals including Merlot and Gamay.
The signature bench lands of Naramata expose a face of the clay that can be seen below Moraine’s vineyard, and this exceptional landscape contributes to the creation of fresh, elegant, fruit-driven wines of distinction. With a goal of using only fruit grown on Naramata Bench, Moraine’s inaugural vintage wines offer a unique, desirable flavour profile. The western exposure of the vineyards permits the vines to capture every ray of sunlight from mid-morning to nightfall, and this, combined with a cooling breeze, delivers beautifully ripe and flavourful grapes.

The winery owners are the husband-wife team of Oleg & Svetlana. In 1995, the couple moved to Canada from Europe to give their family a better quality of life. They first moved to the city of Edmonton where they lived for 15 years. They were charmed by the beauty of the Okanagan and vineyards which made them relocate from Alberta in 2009. The couple believes that wine offers one of life’s most simple, enjoyable, and accessible pleasures; and this philosophy spurred their leap into the wine industry.
