Celebrate Dad this Weekend, like a Local

Father’s Day is June 19th.

Whether you’ll be firing up the BBQ, enjoying some family time down at Manitou, or sending Dad off on a golf day with his buds, one thing is for sure: there is no shortage of ways for him to spend a day doing exactly what he likes. We polled some of our Naramata locals to see what they are planning for this coming weekend — as well as our top Father’s Day bevvies to cheers Dad with.

Need some ideas for how to spend your day?

On foot or by bike, the KVR is a popular day drip. Head up to Glenfir or Smethurst Road for KVR access to the Little Tunnel, or park at the Arawana entrance for sweeping valley views.

"I’d take a walk on the KVR to enjoy the views. Then I’d stop by a local brewery patio for a beer, before heading home for a steak dinner and a nice glass of red. "

— Duff of Sandy Beach Resort:

THE BISTRO at Hillside Winery is a popular lunch or dinner spot, for locals and visitors alike

"Start the morning with coffee at The Bench and a stroll down the beach or KVR. Wine tasting would be up next, followed by lunch at the Naramata Inn (be sure to order the seasonal asparagus or morels if they’re available!), pizza at JoieFarm, or one of the other spots! An afternoon pint at a local brewery, followed by dinner at Hillside. I’d cap off the day with a nice bottle of red and some cheese from Poplar Grove, conversation and cards back at the vacay rental!"

— Steven of JoieFarm Winery:

The picnic patio at Three Sisters Winery

"Being with family while relaxing in the backyard, everyone by the pool while the BBQ is heating up!"

— Rebecca of 3Sisters Winery:

“Brunch in Penticton at Lokis Garage, a round of golf, a drive along the Naramata bench, cocktails at Legend Distilling, then beers, food, and Sunday live music at Cannery Brewing in the backyard”

— Shayne of Creek & Gully Cider

“Disc golf by day, pizza by night.”

— LaVonne of Real Things Pizza

***Don’t miss the Triple A pizza — the current seasonal favourite! It features asparagus, asiago & artichoke on a basil pesto made complete with sun dried tomato and a little house-grown fresh oregano!"

Time for a Drink

Tee time is booked, bike tires are pumped, and your beach bag is packed? Check, check, check.
All that remains is what to fill Dad’s glass with at the end of the day. Here’s our top picks for beer, cider, spirits and wine:

Cheers to you, Dad! Head to Legend Distilling for a cocktail on the patio…..one pick up one of the delicious options we’ve outlined here!

—> Spirits: The Manhattan from Legend Distilling

The perfect whisky drink for whisky drinkers…and non-whisky drinkers. Mixed using Legend Distilling’s Wyatt Whisky, Naramaro and Cherry Bitters, this ready-to-pour version of this classic cocktail is edgier and a bit spicier. This is is the perfect pre-dinner sipper while you wait for the BBQ to heat up.

—> Cider: Creek & Gully Bittered Cider from Creek & Gully.

Infused with organic California citrus rinds, this casual option is perfect to accompany backyard burgers and chips.

—> Beer: Sublink Berry Sour from Cannery Brewing.

Warm early summer vibes are the perfect match for the Sunblink Berry Sour from Cannery Brewing. A little bit sweet and sour, it pairs beautifully with the salty + hot Salt and Pepper Wings from Real Things Pizza.

—> Wine: (White, Red and Rosé!)
1)
A Noble Blend and Rosé from JoieFarm Winery

A Noble Blend is JoieFarm's signature white wine. An aromatic blend of Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Auxerrois, and Muscat. Meanwhile, this Rosé has popular since 2004. In fact, JoieFarm is well-known for bringing the Rosé Revolution to BC. This rosé is made from Pinot Noir and skin-contact Pinot Gris.

Serve these with some wild salmon and asparagus, fresh from the grill.

2) Cabernet Franc from Three Sisters
If red meat is on the menu, don’t miss this perfectly smooth Cabernet Franc from Three Sisters. With notes of dark plum and black cherry on the palate, this bold style of wine pairs perfectly with a dry-rub-grilled rack of lamb. A little bit of charring will help complement this wine!
