"In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer." ~ Albert Camus
The calm after the storm. Pouring water on glowing embers, the remnants of a fun evening with friends. Walking home to the beat of your own footsteps echoing off the sleeping houses lining either side of an empty street. Sliding into a warm, cozy bed, humming the evening's soundtrack before drifting off to sleep.
That same music awaits as the sun peaks through the window to announce a brand-new day. Stepping outside, you're surrounded by a symphony of birds and insects, busy about their business in the fresh morning air. Their presence complements the stillness of the early hours as dew drops shimmer on the petals and leaves of your colourful garden. It's a fine start to the day.
You sit and inhale deeply, breathing in the moment. Relaxation lowers your eyelids, providing a makeshift screen where the previous night plays back as vividly as you'd experienced it - stories and songs, laughter and good times. Dancing flames splash their swaying light on smiling faces circling the fire. You see it all again just as it happened, and, for a brief moment, you're there.
There's often a lull after experiencing a beautiful moment when we feel blue. The Beautiful Blues, if you will. A tinge of nostalgia when the party's over - after winning a tournament, attending a wedding, graduating, or, as mentioned above, a fun night with some close friends. But the Beautiful Blues aren't so bad. They're evidence that something incredible took place. Something meaningful.
January can be a tough month for most. The flat tire after making the podium with your favourite bike. But don't fret. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
With January nearly behind us, so are the Beautiful Blues. It's time to perk up and start planning your next beautiful moment. On these long, cold, wintry nights, what could be more warming than planning some travels for Spring and Summer?
Imagine snow piling up on the windowsill while you curl up with a cup of tea and book yourself a warm holiday. Our little village is the perfect place for your next getaway. And planning it now is a guaranteed cure for the Beautiful Blues.
So rather than letting January get you down, start planning your visit to Naramata, and spend these remaining Winter days looking forward to your next beautiful moment.
